Spiritual Growth

Our Vision:

As we grow spiritually, we explore a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. With Jesus, we establish a faith foundation through study and community. In the power of the Spirit, we equip one another for ministry. And throughout our lifetime in faith, we experience continued spiritual formation as we study, serve, and nurture one another in community, reaching out to make disciples for the transformation of the world.

Step one: Explore

Explore a personal relationship with god through jesus christ.

If you are new to Christianity, or new to Stonybrook and you wish to take the first step in your spiritual growth journey with us, this is your first stop. Get to know the pastors, get to know God, and get to know each other.

Pizza with the pastors

Pizza with the Pastors is a beginning step on the faith Journey at Stonybrook Church. Pizza with the Pastors is a 30- minute meal and 30- minute question and answer time after the 11:00 Worship Celebration. Our next one is scheduled for March 19 at 12:30 pm.

Animate Series

To "animate" is to give life to, to fill with courage or boldness, or move to action. The Animate Adult Spiritual Formation Series published by Spark House is designed to do just that. This series is an excellent precursor to becoming a new member at Stonybrook.  Animate Faith  offers an in-depth exploration of big questions about Christian faith. We will explore the topics of God, religion, Jesus, salvation, the cross, the bible and the church. (Fall) Animate Practices  offers an engaging introduction to the practices that help us live out our Christian faith. We will explore prayer, food, worship, the sacraments and service. January Animate Bible offers the opportunity to encounter scripture in new ways and to deepen and reinvigorate one's understanding of the Bible. (Spring)

Life Group Leaders:  Our annual Resourcing and Training Event will be Saturday, August 27 from 9:30-11:00 am in Wesley Café or Thursday, September 1 from 7-8:30 pm in Stonybrook’s Multi-Purpose Room A&B. We will be introducing this year’s fall sermon and study series and learning about new resources for leaders. Click here for more info.

Step 2: Establish

Establish a faith foundation through study and community.

The next step in Stonybrook Spiritual Growth is to learn more about your faith and work to establish a relationship with Jesus, and a relationship with one another.

Christian Life Groups

It is important to remain in a Christian Life group. These groups not only provide a starting point for your faith journey, but act as a communal guide along the way.

New Member Class

The next New Members class will be Saturday, April 29 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm and is designed for those already active in their faith journey and desiring to commit to the membership vows of the United Methodist Church. In our New Members’ Class, we examine what it means to be a member at Stonybrook Church. We will examine membership through the promises we make as members to be active in Christ’s body through our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness. Childcare is available. STEP 4: Experience

We experience a lifetime of spiritual formation as we continue to study,  and nurture one another in community, and as we serve together, reaching out to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Look for ways to serve both inside our faith community and outside of our four walls.
